You Won't see BIOFILM
at Your Local CinePlex
Bad breath occurs due to a change in the bacteria of the mouth. These bacteria coat the surfaces of the teeth and linings of the mouth, throat and nose. This coating is called a BIOFILM .
The bacteria excrete waste products such as smelly sulphur compounds that saturate the saliva (causing a bad taste) or evaporate in mouth air (causing bad breath) or evaporate in nasal air (causing nasal smells).
These biofilms mainly occur on the tongue surface, teeth and gum pockets, back of the throat past the gag reflex, and in the nasal passages. As all these areas are connected, once a person has a case of chronic bad breath or halitosis (as it is medically known) all the surfaces need to be treated for any success to occur. This biofilm removal must also be done as well as changing of the mouth bacteria to a level that enables the natural mouth cleansing to stop the problem from occurring again.
The bacterial waste products smell. Because these bacteria do aid digestion and Candida protection, they cannot be eliminated from the body. We aim to control their overgrowth, so that these bacteria can live symbiotically with us.
The basic odor problem is altered slightly in each individual by life style and physiologic factors such as:

We have helped many people to conquer their oral odor problem.
It is always a challenge because it is always caused by a combination of several factors.
And since that combination of factors is unique to that individual
it is like a solving a mystery.

I found a little yellow thing in my mouth that smells bad. What is it? Answer: Sometimes the tonsils secrete a congealed exudate that has the consistancy of cheese. These "tonsil stones" have a bad odor and should just be discarded. They are not a disease -- just another discard product that our body needs to expel.

The Journal Chemical Senses published an important article on
body odor and meat consumption
Body Odor Attractiveness
Seventeen male odor donors were on "meat" or "nonmeat" diet for 2 weeks.
Fresh odor samples were assessed by 30 women for their
* Pleasantness
* Attractiveness
* Masculinity
* intensity
Results showed that the body odor of the men, when on the non-meat diet, was judged as significantly more attractive, more pleasant, and less intense.
This suggests that red meat consumption has a negative impact on perceived body odor.

There is a teenage advice column carried on www.dearsugar.com
They recently put up advice on bad breath:
Dear Sugar
I just started dating a new guy three months ago. Everything is going great except for one little issue that I have with him; he has the world’s worst breath! At first I just thought maybe he just didn’t brush his teeth very often, but after going away for the weekend together, I saw first hand that even shortly after brushing, it came right back again.
I don’t know what to do because I love spending time with him, but his breath is really taking a toll on our relationship. Kissing him is sometimes very unpleasant and when we go out together, I know that other people notice it too and sort of keep their distance from him. Our relationship still feels so new and vulnerable to me and I am unsure how to bring up this topic without totally offending him. Do you have any suggestions?

Halitosis, the scientific name for smelly breath, is very common and affects roughly 50 million people in America. What a bummer for you. The good news is that there are measures that he can take to eliminate that foul odor.
Since the bacteria that causes the bad smell is typically located on the far back of the tongue, your boyfriend might not even be aware of his problem. Unfortunately you are going to have to confront him about this if you want to rectify it. This is an uncomfortable conversation to have, but you’ve got to bite the bullet and let him know…. wouldn't you want to know if you had stink breath?
Tell him that you’ve noticed that sometimes his mouth has a funny smell after you guys eat particular foods and so you’ve been looking into this a little bit. Here are a couple of facts about foul breath that you might find helpful:
95% of bad breath comes from the mouth so making sure to brush your tongue is the first step.
It’s very important to stay on top of routine dental check ups to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy and disease/odor free.
Try to stay away from certain foods such as: garlic, peppers, onions, alcohol, and harsh spices, which can sometimes leave you with a funky odor in your mouth.
If all of these preventative measures are not helping, I suggest that your boyfriend see his dentist. If you are still at a standstill and you are desperate to save your relationship, there is an online company that will actually send an anonymous e-mail to your boyfriend delivering the bad news. Although some might identify it as being passive aggressive and slightly mean, it is the caring thing to do and will yield long term dividends for both of you. Check it out here.
